TRAVELS
July 14th, 2008We all just got back from a whirlwind trip…starting in Maine where Aaron’s brother Greg married the lovely Sally. Joy was the ring bearer and Aaron was the best man. Watch them come down the aisle. Aaron and Nicole are first, then another couple, and Joy following closely behind.
Then we went to Boston to see more cousins and hop on a train to New York.
We checked into a hotel in Mid town Manhattan
By this point Joy had no trouble adjusting to hotel living.
On July 10th my show opened at Sunday
We all worked on the installation…with a lot of time spent on the sidewalks of the lower east side.
We spent our last night with long time friends in Brooklyn. We met Willy and Janine in art school 20 or so years ago. YIKES. They have five beautiful children.

JOY TRYING TO GET IN THE GAME
THE USUAL
June 23rd, 2008No time for blogging lately. We have had exceptionally busy schedules…Joy with school and her swimming and gymnastics. She is a girl with bountiful energy…physical activity is a must. We have a nice routine…daily and weekly stuff. Sleep is an ever evolving problem that we cannot seem to solve. We have tried many versions of every expert’s approach…from Super Nanny to Earth Mother Goddess. One way or another Joy always ends up in our bed which is just fine with us…as she wakes up happy and smiling every single day.

May 17th, 20081st trip to the Galveston in 2008….very different than last year.

CHUPE FAIRY
April 29th, 2008Joy has used a pacifier all her life. As a family we are heavily addicted. We call it a “chupe”. Today Joy got a visit from the “Chupe Fairy” who helped Joy collect all her pacifiers for babies in need. She cooperated and got a big present from the fairy. We’ll see how the evening goes. (Chupe Fairy played by artist Nancy Douthey who took our household dilemma and turned it into a work of art).
Portrait
April 23rd, 2008Portrait of Joy by Olga LaMont, acrylic on canvas, 20×16″, 2008
We are the fortunate recipients of a one-of-a-kind, hand painted portrait of our girl. Just one of the perks of knowing so many artists. THANK YOU Olga! Painted from a photo previously featured on this blog (December 30th, 2007)

February 12th, 2008I WATCH AND LEARN
January 9th, 2008Yesterday Joy drew with markers. Below is one of her masterpieces.
It is a typical example of most of her work.
UNTIL TODAY!
She wanted to draw again this evening. It began with her usual Ab Ex approach. Suddenly I saw a look of sheer delight come over her. She recognized something on the page. It began with a closed circle. Then the pods came. Then she knew what she had to do, and began to develop the drawings as fast as she could…one after the other…gleefully.
These are pretty much chronological. All in less than 30 minutes.
Down And Out Do
December 30th, 2007This is our favorite look. Freestyle Afro. So cute! It comes with it’s own set of problems (and has its own set of hair products). It is best that one does not sleep on down and out hair. It gets knotted into a wads….and I don’t mean pretty organized dread locs. So to have a down and out do during the day we must up do the hair (braids or twists) before sleep…then take down for a bit of combing in the morning. For this I will have to rearrange our night time routine, but I am willing to try!
