Swinging at school
June 25th, 2007We have been wanting to shoot a movie of Joy swinging at school for some time. She is a champion swinger. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. She goes so high now that the chain buckles (and my hard skips a beat.) The swing set at school is a hub of social activity. Kids get one on a first come first serve basis and anyone having a turn can generally stay on as long as they want. The kids are cunning and swift when it comes to nabbing a swing…swooping in at just the right time. They are equally adept at holding on to their turn once they have a swing. They flirt with this…quickly switching with each another but barely letting go of the chains. They stop and linger…careful not to create any gaps into which other toddlers can wiggle. Seeing a child willingly walk away from a swing is rare. There is a mad rush…often screaming…wood chips flying. An adult sometimes has to step in, but the tots usually work it out somehow. Its a fascinating display of subverbal social interaction. Here is a little movie of Joy and Angelika having a round. Carly is lurking (also a champion swinger). You can also see from this video (with a near miss) how the kids learn to steer clear of the swing when it is in use.
Hair / Face
June 25th, 2007Its hard to see how cute this is but Joy got some twisties and big barettes in her hair. One of her teachers at preschool did it without any trouble at all. I can’t get her to sit still for me. Did she like the new do? I think the look on her face says it all.

Dancing and Squirrelling
June 20th, 2007We have a squirrel feeder (it’s actually a bird feeder) attached to our bay window where anyone can sit and watch them gorge themselves. Minerva, in particular, enjoys sitting on the window seat and watching this fattening up process.
The squirrels now seem to be part of the scene. Joy sometimes notices with glee. Other times she is just too busy. Here, quite focused on a dance cardio workout routine…she doesn’t seem to care much that there is a squirrel almost in her living room.
Fathers Day
June 20th, 2007Joy said Happy Birthday to Aaron several times on Fathers day. She doesn’t need an excuse to celebrate her dad. They made blueberry pancakes. And then Joy did some sticker work.
Adventures in Swimming
June 8th, 2007Sometimes its hard to watch. Joy is fearless in the water. She swallows a bit of water but loves every minute of it and screams “again again again”.
That’s Andrea and Lili cheering in the background. I was shooting the moving and clutching my heart!
Tonight’s Dinner
June 4th, 2007Joy Likes likes to cut her own meat

Doctor
June 4th, 2007They took turns as doctor and patient. Here Joy is the doctor (in the doctor apron) and Lili is the patient patient.
OK…you could take my blood pressure.

OK…you could check my ears.
In went on for a while. Trading roles. Real pretend play is so cute!
